PIP or something else? What did I do wrong?

Hi all, I just started my first cycle Saturday, injecting 2ml into right quad. The actual injection site feels no different from my left (not injected) quad, but area below the injection site (lower third of front thigh, above the knee) is a bit inflamed (not red), but it feels crazy sore when I move it or press on it. I did work out legs on Saturday, so there's some soreness in my left quad, but the leg I injected feels like 10x more sore when I move it, and it's been feeling like that since Sunday. Did I inject at the wrong location, inject not deep enough, or is it infected? I followed this: https://www.spotinjections.com/thigh2.htm

Sounds like it's just pip. depending on what the needle knicked on the way in it could be tendon or muscle or a blood vessel or some other piece of flesh that in one position when you injected is now in a different one or the fluid mass is putting pressure on a different part of the muscle etc. Sometimes I won't get it, sometimes I'm sore for a few days after. Depends on your technique and injection location.

Look for inflammation, hardness and tenderness along with a fever for infection. It will look obvious.

I personally would avoid injecting quads for typical injections where you’re inject 1cc+ with something longer than a 5/8in needle. Reason being is that there are a fuckload of veins and just a lot going on in those areas which will leave you with PIP issues (at best) down the road. I avoid them personally unless injecting 1cc or less and only 1/2in. Anything more and you are asking for PIP and inflammation. I used to have to take epsom salt baths after leg day and those injection sites ended up being the culprit.

Really there are better places to inject and you can always get creative by switching up needle size and spreading things out.

Never experienced this, but can totally see it happening

Sounds like pip, try injecting slower and holding the needle as still as possible to reduce trauma. You can also switch up to ventrogluteal but be VERY careful, and educate yourself on how and where to inject, needle size, etc.

See I saw that video but here is the thing, the reason ventrogluteal is so widely used in health care is because the landmarks to inject on this site are easy to find with someone else doing it. If you are going to self inject on this site you HAVE to be educated on landmarks and use the CORRECT needle size. if you correctly find the injection site it is harder to fuck up because you have a bit of muscle you'd have to go through before hitting important things.

I would say self injecting hitting the vastus lateralus is easier to find, a little more risky in terms of trauma to other structures. I know certain practices like aspirating the needle gently and applying a small amount of pressure after injection have been proven not necessary but I still do these things for certain peace of mind.

I’ll admit I was not as methodical when injecting quads, and ultimately It appears you really have to be to have success with it. More power to you. I’ll do what works for me.

Absolutely, since you are clearly educated on landmarks and have been successful with ventrogluteal etc. that is the best for you no question there. I just think if you are going to do ventrogluteal these other people HAVE to know exactly how to self administer there the positioning and landmarks are different for self administration versus a healthcare provider doing it.

I will also say to have a hematoma that needs an incision and drainage from an injection is a big red flag to something being really wrong with your blood chemistry.

Yeah, I saw a doc and told them it was B12, and they said it looked like I botched the injection, probably hit a vein or injected too shallow, in addition to PIP from 2ml. What's weird to me is it took like 2-3 days for it to go from sore to super swollen and painful to move.Attach files
