Delt pins

Hey SST fam,

Seems like out of every 10 delt pins I bleed on 9 of them. Not a blood volcano mind you but it’s always a steady stream. Probably just a case of trash pinning technique in my case…but anyone got any solutions to this? I pin lateral head sitting down with a 25 5/8 or 27, bf is probably around 13%.

Google the “Z track” method for injections. Works great. I never inject without Z tracking.

It’s a little bit tricky for a delt injection because you don’t have the use of your other hand, but it’s definitely doable. Might take a little practice. Basically just use one of your fingers to pull traction on the skin, inject, then release traction once you’ve pulled the needle out.

Are you pinning delts exclusively? Try VG’s. Use 25g x 5/8” luer lok by BD. I like those best.

Nah bro, rotate delts, VG, pecs and quads (hate glutes). Im with you man I LOVE VG’s but just don’t wanna build too much scar tissue there, if I could id pin those Ventros everyday haha.

leave the needle in for like 10 seconds after pinning and you should be g2g.

In addition to doing this, I also started using the air lock technique. You draw your dose and then draw an additional .2-.3 ml of air. Make sure the air bubble enters at the end of the dose and not first. This, along with waiting the 10 seconds has helped me avoid that stream of blood that follows after pulling out the pin. Read somewhere that it could be you struck a blood vessel on the way in but aren’t necessarily in a vein.

I do the “Z” method and leave the pin in for a small period of time when I’m done. I rotate each delt and each quad in a circle for my pins.

After it bleeds… can you see a tiny bruise?

With delts, I know I hit a vein when I bleed out and then have a bruise like appearance under the injection site within a minute or so.

I rarely bleed more than a drop or often nothing at all, but every once in awhile I get the steady flow, and a few times the gusher. Just comes from going through a blood vessel along the needle path, I’m not sure any method will stop bleeding if you go through a big enough vessel.

Are you relaxing your shoulder muscles by putting your elbows on something? If not, sit at a desk and lay your arm across it while pinning. The muscle will be way less flexed than it hanging to your side while pinning.

Personally I wouldn’t be worried about bleeding often after pinning delts. Your shoulders are absolutely littered with veins. If you’re lean in the right light you can see them all, big ones and small. I don’t know about you, but I insert the needle very slowly, and I can literally feel when I’m poking a vein - if I go through it, I bleed after pulling the needle out, and if I pull out and go elsewhere, I’m good. For me triceps/delts require actual effort to avoid veins. Not saying it’s necessarily a bad thing (they’re my favorite sites), but if I didn’t I’d bleed a lot too.
