After you pickup a prescription, it is no longer being tracked by the software healthcare facilities use (which is a DEA software for CDS). If you are working in a pharmacy or doctors office and controlled substances are going missing, I assure you it would be caught very very fast.

The prescription drug problem in the United States is that of counterfeit narcotics. Pressed pills. And over prescribing by physicians (which is much rarer now).
