Need to find self blood collection kit

I will be starting a cycle including EQ in a couple months (first time using EQ) and i know that at some point i will need to donate blood. I have hep-c from my former lifestyle and i know that i will be unable to donate blood. So i am going to have to do thos myself. I have found a kit or two online but they are wanting me to show some sort of documents saying that i am a medical professional (i live in the US). Can someone with knowledge of where to purchase such a kit please point me in the right direction… Thank you!

You can buy a self blood drawing kit. Just look it up and suppliers will pop up. It will
Come with drawing needle, 600ml bag and tubing. Or get a 5/10ml needles and do a few of those.

Anywhere online that says to donate blood while on EQ never tells you how much blood you need to get rid of… So i googled “how much blood is drawn during blood donation” and it said on average 50 ccs… So i am assuming i need to get rid of 50 ccs of blood… Does anyone know how much blood is recommended for me to lose?

What you want is called a blood collection kit, or set. You can find these on healthykin (highly recommended)

Also, you missed a “0” on your collection volume. They draw out a pint per donation, or about 500ml. This is a safe volume and should not present any side effects.

Do you know what your hematocrit is? There is no reason to dump blood if you don’t need to, and not everyone necessarily reacts the same way to EQ as far as RBC production.

No i do not at this moment. I plan on getting this done before i start this next cycle. ( in about 2 months). If my numbers come back normal at that point, once i start cycle (it will be 16 weeks) when is a good time to get bloodwork done again to check the levels?

1 pint is about 470cc, or 470 ml. You won’t pull that much blood by filling syringes.

You don’t need a “blood collection kit.” All you need is some 18G needles and some 1/4" ID flexible hose. Rubber is easier since the plastic hose likes to coil up and is hard to control.

File down the luer tabs and a little bit around the outside of the luer fitting of the needle until it just fits into the end of the flexible hose. You only want to take a pint at a time, so run the hose into a bottle or measuring cup so you know when to stop. Run the hose uphill a bit to start so no air bubbles come back to the needle, or it’ll clot and clog up. Tie your arm off like a junkie, get one of those big veins inside your elbow, hold the needle steady with your other hand, and wait for the cup or bottle to fill.

Don’t do it alone the first few times. Have someone around who can wake you up and pull out the needle in case you screw up and pass out.

I found some online that were 21g with a hose already attached to it for about a dollar apeice… I think im just going to go ahead and buy these… Or do you think that 21 gauge is too small? (i know it will take longer but shouldnt be much more)… Also was planning already on having someone there with me incase i passed out… Thank you for your help

Where did you find them for a dollar? That’s a good find.

21g will take longer, but it’ll work as long as you don’t let air get back to the needle and clot it up.
